The Diogenes Book Club is a Silent Book Club. Bring whatever you’re currently reading—or pick something from the shelves—and spend an hour enjoying uninterrupted reading in the company of fellow book lovers. There are no assigned books, no required reading, and no pressure to participate in discussion.

Simply arrive, settle into a comfortable chair, and read.

Those who wish can stay afterward for coffee and conversation, recommendations, and the inevitable question: “So…what are you reading?”

Why The Diogenes Club?

Sherlock Holmes fans will recognize the name immediately.

In Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, the Diogenes Club was London’s most exclusive gentleman’s club, founded for those who preferred silence to conversation. Members gathered together in perfect companionship, each absorbed in his own newspaper or thoughts. Speaking inside the club was considered almost a violation of its purpose.

Our version is considerably friendlier.

We simply borrow the spirit of the original: a room full of readers, each enjoying the quiet pleasure of a good book, together.
