Fellowship of the Reads – Fantasy Book Club

Every great quest begins with the gathering of a fellowship.

If you’ve ever wandered through Middle-earth, explored enchanted forests, followed dragons into forgotten kingdoms, uncovered ancient magic, or simply love escaping into extraordinary worlds, we’d love to welcome you to Fellowship of the Reads, the Fantasy Book Club at Curious Owl Bookshop.

Each month, we gather to discuss our featured fantasy selection, share our thoughts, explore the worlds we’ve visited, and enjoy great conversation with fellow readers who love fantasy as much as you do.

Our discussions span every corner of the genre—Epic Fantasy, Sword & Sorcery, Cozy Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, Gothic Fantasy, Fairy Tales, Mythology, Urban Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Romantasy, Steampunk, Magical Realism, and everything in between.

There are no membership fees and no pressure. Simply read the month’s featured book and join us. Whether it’s your first fantasy novel or your hundredth, you’ll find a welcoming seat around the table.

Bookshops & Bonedust

Viv is an orc who would much rather be swinging a sword than turning the pages of a book. But when an injury leaves her stranded in the sleepy seaside town of Murk, adventure appears to have moved on without her.

Then she discovers a struggling little bookshop.

What follows is a wonderfully cozy fantasy about unexpected friendships, discovering exactly the right book at exactly the right moment, and learning that sometimes being forced to stop running is the only way to discover what you’ve been missing.

Of course, this is still Viv we’re talking about. There are skeletons, suspicious strangers, old enemies, a little romance, and enough danger to remind us that even the coziest corner of the world can hide an adventure.

Bookshops & Bonedust is the prequel to Legends & Lattes, but it stands beautifully on its own. It’s funny, warm, wonderfully bookish, and perhaps dangerously relatable to anyone who has ever walked into a bookstore for one book and emerged carrying five.

For the Fellowship of the Reads, this one gives us plenty to talk about: What makes a place feel like home? Can the right book actually change someone? And is a quiet life really the opposite of an adventure?
