Join us for the monthly meeting of The Archivists, Curious Owl Bookshop’s official History Book Club.
Whether you are drawn to ancient civilizations, revolutions, biographies, wars and peaces, local stories, forgotten voices, or the quiet details that reshape what we think we know, you will find fellow readers here who care about the past – and what it asks of us now.
There are no membership fees and no pressure. Simply read the month’s featured book and join us.
This month’s featured book:
Tom Paine’s War
The Words That Rallied a Nation and the Founder for Our Time
by Jack Kelly
In 1776, Thomas Paine’s words helped turn a tax revolt into a revolution – and then kept hope alive when the war nearly collapsed. Jack Kelly’s Tom Paine’s War follows Paine from Common Sense into the darkest months after New York fell, through the writing of The American Crisis (“These are the times that try men’s souls”), and on to Washington’s crossing of the Delaware. Come ready to talk about persuasion, courage, and how a pamphlet can change the fate of a nation.
Copies of Tom Paine’s War are available now at Curious Owl Bookshop – stop in, grab a copy, and read along with us before we meet on October 3.
